Cetearyl Glucoside (and) Cetearyl Alcohol CAS 246159-33-1

Cetearyl Glucoside (and) Cetearyl Alcohol does not contain ethylene oxide, has good biodegradability and skin affinity, is a mild green raw material.

About Cetearyl Glucoside (and) Cetearyl Alcohol  :

Physical property

Cetyl glucoside is a yellowish to yellowish-brown viscous liquid with a slight characteristic odor, a relative density of 0.94~0.98, and a refractive index of 1.460~1.465. Cetyl alcohol is a white to light yellow crystalline solid with a relative density of 0.840~0.860 and a refractive index of 1.441-1.443.

Chemical property

Cetyl glucoside has high chemical stability and is relatively stable to acid and base, but hydrolysis reactions may occur under strong acid or base conditions. Cetyl alcohol also has good chemical stability, but it is easy to oxidize under an oxidizing agent.

Biological property

Cetyl glucoside has low irritability and can formulate sensitive skin and baby skin care products. In addition, due to its natural origin and good biodegradability, cetyl glucoside is also considered an environmentally friendly surfactant. Cetyl alcohols are less irritating but may be less biodegradable than cetyl glucosides.

Safety evaluation

Cetyl glucoside and cetyl alcohol are relatively safe surfactants and additives. However, due to individual differences and different product formulations, some people with sensitive skin may have allergic or irritating reactions during use. In the use process, we should observe the skin reaction; if discomfort or abnormal conditions, it should be stopped in time.

Applications of  Cetearyl Glucoside (and) Cetearyl Alcohol  :
Cosmetics industry

Cetyl glucoside and cetyl alcohol play an important role in cosmetics. As surfactants, they can reduce the surface tension of water, improve the permeability and flexibility of products, and make cosmetics easier to apply and absorb.

Cetyl glucoside has a natural source and good biodegradability, so it is favored in the cosmetics market in pursuit of natural and environmental protection. It can make lotions, creams, serums, masks and other cosmetics.

Cetyl alcohol is also a common emollient and moisturizer, widely used in skincare, makeup, shampoo, body wash, and other cosmetics. It can moisturize the skin, improve skin dryness and desquamation, and make it smooth and delicate. At the same time, cetyl alcohol also has certain antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects, which help to maintain the skin's microecological balance and reduce skin inflammation.

The personal care products industry

Cetyl glucosides and cetyl alcohols are also widely used in the personal care industry. The personal care market continues to expand.

Cetyl glucoside is commonly used in personal care products such as baby care, oral care, hand sanitizers, and body washes due to its natural, mild properties. It can gently clean the skin, keep it moisturized, and has a good moisturizing effect. In addition, cetyl glucoside also has a certain antioxidant effect, which helps to delay skin aging.

Cetyl alcohol is widely used in shampoo, conditioner, body wash and other personal care products. It can moisturize hair, relieve dry and itchy scalp problems, and make hair soft and shiny. At the same time, cetyl alcohol can also effectively moisturize the skin, relieve dry skin and desquamate phenomena, and improve the experience of using personal care products.

Industrial coating industry

Cetyl glucoside and cetyl alcohol are also used in industrial coatings. As surfactants, they can improve the fluidity and wettability of coatings and improve the uniformity and adhesion of coatings.

Cetyl glucoside is mainly used as a wetting agent and leveling agent in industrial coatings, which helps to improve the surface smoothness and gloss. In addition, cetyl glucoside can effectively reduce the viscosity of the coating and improve its construction performance. It is suitable for water- and oil-based coatings and other types and is a relatively environmentally friendly industrial coating additive.

Cetyl alcohol is mainly used as a wetting agent and dispersant in industrial coatings, which helps to improve the dispersion effect of pigments and fillers and increase the hiding power and coloring effect of coatings.

Production Method of  Cetearyl Glucoside (and) Cetearyl Alcohol  :

Chemical synthesis

Chemical synthesis is a common method to produce cetyl glucoside and cetyl alcohol. The process converts raw materials into target products through chemical reactions.

For cetyl alcohol, it can also be synthesized by a similar method. Long-chain fatty acids or fatty acid esters are used as raw materials to produce alcohols by reduction reaction. Commonly used reducing agents include hydrogen, sodium, aluminum, etc. The advantage of this method is that the reaction conditions are relatively mild, but the yield is low, and subsequent separation and purification are required.

Biological fermentation

In addition to chemical synthesis, biological fermentation is also a method of producing cetyl glucoside. The method uses microbial fermentation to convert sugars into cetyl glucosides.

Specific microbial strains, such as yeast, mold, etc., are usually selected as fermentation strains in biological fermentation. Glucose or other carbohydrate substances are added to the fermenter as a substrate, and fermentation is carried out under suitable temperature, pH and oxygen conditions. Through the action of microorganisms, glucose is converted into cetyl glucoside.

The advantages of biological fermentation are that it is environmentally friendly and efficient and can produce cetyl glucoside similar to natural sources. In addition, the biological fermentation method can also improve the yield and purity by optimizing the microbial strains and fermentation conditions. However, biological fermentation has some challenges, such as a long fermentation cycle, high requirements on raw materials and environmental conditions, and possible strain contamination.

In actual production, suitable methods can be selected according to specific raw materials, equipment, market demand and other factors for production. At the same time, paying attention to the safety and environmental protection issues in the production process is necessary to ensure product quality and output while reducing the negative environmental impact.
