Description of ALS Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate :

Chemical structure: dodecyl ammonium sulfate combines dodecyl (C12H25) with ammonium sulfate (NH4HSO4). Its molecular formula is C12H25SO4NH4.

Production Method of ALS Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate:

Using ethanol and methyl chloride as raw materials, methoxyethanol was produced by esterification reaction, and then ammonium dodecyl sulfate was obtained by hydrolysis reaction. The specific steps are as follows:

(1) Esterification reaction: ethanol and methyl chloride are esterified under the action of a catalyst to produce methoxyethanol. This step is a reversible reaction, and the reaction temperature and pressure need to be controlled to make the reaction proceed in the direction of the formation of methoxyethanol.

(2) Hydrolysis reaction: methoxyethanol and water are hydrolyzed under the action of a catalyst to generate ammonium dodecyl sulfate. Hydrolysis reaction needs to control the reaction temperature and pressure, and attention must be paid to prevent the occurrence of side reactions.

Ethylene process: Another method for producing ammonium lauryl sulfate is the ethylene process. Ethylene and ethylene oxide were used as raw materials; an addition reaction formed ethylene glycol, and a substitution reaction with methyl chloride obtained ammonium dodecyl sulfate. The specific steps are as follows:

(1) Addition reaction: ethylene and ethylene oxide are added under the action of a catalyst to produce ethylene glycol. The addition reaction must be carried out under certain temperature and pressure conditions to control the reaction speed and selectivity.

(2) Substitution reaction: ethylene glycol and methylene chloride are substituted under the action of a catalyst to generate ammonium dodecyl sulfate. The conditions and selective control of the substitution reaction are similar to that of the addition reaction, but attention should be paid to preventing the occurrence of side reactions.

(3) Rectification: distillation of the product of the substitution reaction to separate ammonium dodecyl sulfate. The rectification process aims to remove by-products and impurities and obtain high-purity ammonium dodecyl sulfate.

Transesterification: Transesterification is another feasible method for producing ammonium dodecyl sulfate. The method uses methyl ester and ethanol to produce ammonium dodecyl sulfate by transesterification reaction. The specific steps are as follows:

(1) Transesterification reaction: methyl ester and ethanol are transesterification reactions under the action of a catalyst to produce ammonium dodecyl sulfate. Transesterification reaction must be carried out under certain temperature and pressure conditions, and the reaction speed and selectivity are controlled.

(2) Rectification: distillation of the transesterification reaction products to separate ammonium dodecyl sulfate. The rectification process aims to remove by-products and impurities and obtain high-purity ammonium dodecyl sulfate.
